The Dallas County jail has the same services for inmates as many of the other County Jails in Texas. There are educational services, counseling services and work programs for inmates. The Sheriff of Smith County has been Sheriff for over thirty years and has vast experience in law enforcement. His department boasts an eighty percent rate of murders being solved in that county. The Sheriff’s officers are there to protect, prevent and investigate crimes and arrest those that are believed to have committed crimes. Those that are arrested for crimes and subsequently found guilty are housed at the Smith County Jail.
There are approximately three hundred and fifty staff members employed by the Sheriff’s department and many of those work at the Smith County Jail. In general, there are approximately one thousand prisoners housed on any given day, with over ten thousand going through the prison in one year.
Like many County prisons, the Smith County Jail has the main purpose of providing housing for those that have been subjected to a prison sentence at the county jail. The staff is expected to provide those prisoners with a safe environment. However, there is an additional focus of providing access to education, psychological counseling, vocation skills and other services which are meant to help rehabilitate the prisoners.
The Smith County Jail provides an environment in which prisoners are able to be safe while serving their sentence. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s department has over one thousand employees that prevent and investigate crimes that occur in that county. When inmates have been charged or found guilty of crimes by the county court, they are places in the Tarrant County Jail.
The Tarrant County Jail includes four separate facilities and men and women are kept in separate facilities, as well as juveniles that are accused of serious cites. There are over three thousand inmates housed in the Tarrant County Jail system.
Like most county jails, the focus at the Tarrant County Jail is on providing punishment for those that have been found guilty of crimes. In most jails, the rate of re-offense is quite high, In order to prevent prisoners from being returned to the prison system after release, there are many programs to help them improve their quality of life.
Inmates may be taught basic skills, such as cleaning, how to do laundry properly and cooking. In addition, inmates may take part in fixing certain items within the prison, such as the stove or washing machine, so that they can utilize those skills once they have left the prison.

Harris County has one of the largest Sheriff departments in the country, with over four thousand employees. The prison system is also very large and can house tens of thousands of inmates a year.

The Columbia county jail is located in St Helens, Oregon. The jail has hundreds of beds for male and female inmates. In addition to providing for the inmate’s basic needs, the jail also has many social and psychological programs available.
Columbia County has a Sheriff’s office which is struggling financially which has resulted in the county being short on the amount of officers that would be required to care for county residents. Like most Sheriff’s officers, the officers in Columbia County are there to keep the peace, prevent crime and arrest those that are accused of committing crimes. The shortage of officers has also led to fewer inmates in the Columbia County jail. The fiscal difficulties affecting the county have also affected the Columbia County Jail.
The Sheriff’s office has attempted various methods of collecting monies to help fund the sheriff’s department, as well as the Columbia county jail. For example, there are bed rentals available, which the US Marshall’s may rent. Those monies are used to help fund the jail.
The county residents are fiscally responsible for funding the operations at the Columbia county jail, as well as the sheriff’s department.
