Dallas County Jail

The Dallas County jail has the same services for inmates as many of the other County Jails in Texas. There are educational services, counseling services and work programs for inmates. However, like every county prison, the main focus is on the fact that inmates are there to be punished for crimes for which they have been accused and found guilty.
In prison systems as large as the Dallas County Jail, there are apt to be some issues with inmates’ safety. Even with such a large staff, it can be difficult to control a prison population as large as the one found at the Dallas County Jail. The Gregg County Jail is utilized to house prisoners that have been accused of or found guilty of committing a crime in that county. The jail is utilized to enforce punishments against those that have been found guilty of crimes which include a short sentence. In addition, the Gregg County Jail is utilized to house inmates that have been found guilty of less serious offenses, as those that have committed serious offenses are often housed in State or Federal prisons.
The main purpose of any jail is to punish those that have committed crimes. However, in recent years, the focus has also included rehabilitation of offenders,  so that they are less likely to commit crimes once they are released from jail and Gregg County Jail is no different.
In addition to providing basic medical services, the Gregg County Jail also helps prisoners to care for their mental health. There are basic counseling services available so that prisoners can confront issues that may have led them to commit a crime. The Sheriff of Smith County has been Sheriff for over thirty years and has vast experience in law enforcement. His department boasts an eighty percent rate of murders being solved in that county. The Sheriff’s officers are there to protect, prevent and investigate crimes and arrest those that are believed to have committed crimes. Those that are arrested for crimes and subsequently found guilty are housed at the Smith County Jail.
There are approximately three hundred and fifty staff members employed by the Sheriff’s department and many of those work at the Smith County Jail. In general, there are approximately one thousand prisoners housed on any given day, with over ten thousand going through the prison in one year.
Like many County prisons, the Smith County Jail has the main purpose of providing housing for those that have been subjected to a prison sentence at the county jail. The staff is expected to provide those prisoners with a safe environment. However, there is an additional focus of providing access to education, psychological counseling, vocation skills and other services which are meant to help rehabilitate the prisoners.
The Smith County Jail provides an environment in which prisoners are able to be safe while serving their sentence. In addition the Smith County Jail also allows prisoners to take advantage of many services which can enrich their life and provide them with better opportunities once they are released from prison.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s department has over one thousand employees that prevent and investigate crimes that occur in that county. When inmates have been charged or found guilty of crimes by the county court, they are places in the Tarrant County Jail.
The Tarrant County Jail includes four separate facilities and men and women are kept in separate facilities, as well as juveniles that are accused of serious cites. There are over three thousand inmates housed in the Tarrant County Jail system.
Like most county jails, the focus at the Tarrant County Jail is on providing punishment for those that have been found guilty of crimes. In most jails, the rate of re-offense is quite high, In order to prevent prisoners from being returned to the prison system after release, there are many programs to help them improve their quality of life.
Inmates may be taught basic skills, such as cleaning, how to do laundry properly and cooking. In addition, inmates may take part in fixing certain items within the prison, such as the stove or washing machine, so that they can utilize those skills once they have left the prison.
Inmates at the Tarrant County Jail also have access to educational opportunities which may include basic reading and writing, as well as more advanced classes. These classes are geared toward allowing inmates to enjoy a batter quality of life once they are released; by helping those to acquire skills which will help them find gainful employment.

Harris County Jail

Harris County has one of the largest Sheriff departments in the country, with over four thousand employees. The prison system is also very large and can house tens of thousands of inmates a year.

Dallas County Jail

The Dallas County jail has a special focus on safety at the institution. There had been many problems with safety of the prisoners and the staff in the past, so officers now receive specialize training to prevent incidence of violence. In addition, officers are specially trained to handle issues that do arise.

Tarrant County Jail

Inmates are in fact allowed to practice the religion of their choosing. Inmates can attend services, as well as having access to counseling services with religious leaders.

Travis County Jail

Staff members at the Travis County jail are adept at watching for symptoms of communicable disease which are sometimes found among the prison population. In addition, counseling services looks for mental illnesses which may have contributed to the inmate committing a crime or to a poor quality of life. The staff at the jail works to ensure that inmates’ health, including mental health, is carefully looked after.

Gregg County Jail

The focus at the Gregg Count Jail is on serving punishment to inmates. However, the focus has also been changed to include rehabilitation of prisoners through special programs which provide for medical issues, mental health issues, educational and vocation advancement. These programs are meant to help prisoners avoid committing crimes in the future, by helping them to become more self-sufficient.

Williamson County Jail

Employees at the Williamson County Jail watch for symptom of illness, as a part of their duty to ensure the safety of inmates. Inmates that have symptoms of medical or mental issues are then referred to the medical or counseling staff.

Smith County Jail

 The Sheriff of Smith County has many years of experience in providing citizens with as safe environment. In fact, the rate of solved murders in that county is eighty percent, which has resulted in a higher number of inmates being housed at the Smith County Jail.

The Travis County Jail houses males and female inmates, but they are housed separately. The Sheriff’s office strives to provide humane conditions for inmates which are housed at the Travis County Jail, because of they have been found guilty or a criminal offense. There is also a separate facility within the Travis County Jail system, which houses those that are still in the process of being booked, or charged for crimes.

Staff at the Travis County Jail is very adept at watching for symptoms of those illnesses.
There are also counseling services available for inmates at the Travis County Jail. In addition to allowing inmates to confront issues such as alcohol abuse, counseling services can determine if there is a mental illness. For example, counseling services may discover that an inmate is bipolar and they can assist inmates with handling the disease. Counseling would likely include medication, when required, as well as individualized and group therapy sessions.

Males and females have separate housing, but both are provided with opportunities to improve their quality of life while they are in jail.
Every county jail has a responsibility to provide a safe environment for staff and inmates. In addition to preventing fights and the presence of illicit drugs, county jail staff also has a responsibility to watch for symptoms of illness, including mental illness. The medical and counseling staff can then attend to any issues that have been noticed by staff members or by inmates.

These services combine to provide inmates with the opportunity to confront issues that may have lowered their quality of life, including addictions and abuse.
Inmates also have access to educational and vocational opportunities so that  they can have better employment options once they are released from prison. Inmates have access to classes which can include basic life skills such as math and reading. In addition, inmates may have the opportunity to learn valuable skills, such as mechanical skills so that they could work in the auto industry or other industries which involve that type of knowledge.
